The 2023 MLB regular season was one to forget in the Buckeye State, with Cleveland and Cincinnati posting a combined win percentage of .488 and both missing the postseason for the second time in three years.

While the 82-80 Reds and 76-86 Guardians struggled, it’s worth wondering where each rank when it comes to defensive aptitude among their MLB peers.

As we have moved into the depths of the offseason, it is important to dissect what MLB teams can do to follow the formula of successful teams. To aid in your Ohio sports betting in the season ahead, BetOhio.com used TeamRankings.com to look at the least to most mistake-prone MLB teams by average errors per game over the past three seasons.

Reds, Guardians Struggle in the Field

When ranked among their MLB peers, the Reds are slightly better than their American League brethren from Cleveland, though both teams have struggled since 2021. The Reds ranked 18th between 2021 and 2023 when it comes to average errors per game at .540, while the Guardians ranked in a tie with Oakland for 19th overall at .547.

Both of Ohio’s MLB teams ranked miles behind the league’s best defensive teams during that stretch, including St. Louis (.446 errors per game), Seattle (.450) and Houston (.457).

As for the year ahead, oddsmakers at ESPN BET Ohio have the Reds at +5000 to win their first World Series since 1990, while the Guardians come in at +6000 to snap their 75-year title drought.
